Becoming Blueberries

BECOME, v.i. becum’. pret. became, pp. become.1. To pass from one state to another; to enter into some state or condition, by a change from another state or condition, or by assuming or receiving new properties or qualities, additional matter, or a new character; as, a cion becomes a tree.
BECOM’ING,ppr., Fit; suitable; congruous; proper; graceful; belonging to the character, or adapted to circumstances; as, a dress is very becoming.

Let’s make sure that we’re becoming as we are becoming!

Romans 12:3 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

The Lord wants us to be like Him, to be conformed inwardly to the image of Jesus.

As we consider the image we’re conforming to, realize that God loves beauty and lives in a beautiful setting. Read the description John and Isaiah give:

Revelation 2:2-3 And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.

And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

Isaiah 1:27-28 …I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.

As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD.

As we study and memorize the Word of God, and conform and grow into His likeness, let’s make sure we are showing not only the spiritual growth, but also an outward glory and beauty.

There is nothing as beautiful as a smiling, pleasant face and eyes that light up when they speak to you. A kind word can be a glimpse into God’s beauty, too. Modest clothing that draws attention only to our face, and a face that glows with the peace of God is a delightful thing to see.

Like the blueberry, we have many steps between our quickening seed of salvation and our finished fruit of His likeness, but let’s be sure that with every step of the process, we’re shining with His glory and beauty.

When God Provides Before I Need

Some time last fall, a friend of our gifted us with a box of various and sundry equipment: timers, tools, drip lines, rockwool, etc.

Several things I was able to use right away in our fishkeeping hobby. The timers were used for the lights, the rockwool for plant cuttings, and so on.

When I decided (read that as “felt compelled by the Lord”) to plan a garden, I didn’t even remember that box. But Doug did. And he dragged it inside this morning to see what treasures it held.

A watering timer for the spigot, a soil tester, several sets of drip lines (with accessories to customize them), a watering valve for several hoses from one spigot, a warming mat for seedlings, peat moss pods for seeds.

Before I had the need for all those things, God saw to it that they were supplied. He is such a good God.

And one more thing was included in that box. Something that we didn’t really need, but something that I reeeeeally wanted:

These super fancy plastic labels for the different crops in the garden. You saw in my last post that I was just writing the names of the seeds on the side of the bucket, but I was worried that would eventually rub off due to watering, rain and the heat. These little vinyl labels come with sharp picks to dig down into the soil and will be much more durable than just ink on the side of the bucket. I love them and am so excited to write all my veggies on them. 🙂

God knows our need. Before we have the need, He has a plan to meet it. Our circumstances never catch Him off-guard. He’s not surprised by the “emergencies” in our lives.

He’s already made preparation to meet all the needs I’m going to face in this lifetime, because I am His child. As a good Father, He will do only what is best for me. I can trust Him to have it all planned out.

I don’t know what you’re facing today, but if Jesus is your Saviour, I can promise you, He has already met your need before you even realized you had it. Trust Him.

More importantly, give thanks to Him for meeting your need. It will amaze you how your gratitude will transform the circumstances to bring God glory and to carry you through your trial.

In Him,

Alesha Kay

The Garden is Growing

We planted onions today: a yellow onion & a bunching onion.

We also planted melons. They’re called Top Mark Melons. They’re an oval cantaloupe. I can’t wait to see how they do!

Aaaaaaaand our seedlings are sprouting! All the tomatoes are up!

So exciting to see God’s laws in action.

What are you sprouting in your garden?

Not the Same

II Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Gracelaced by Ruth Chou Simons

You are a new creation. Not the same old You you were before. His life lives in you. His Spirit speaks to you and for you.

Leave the old yesterday behind you and step into the glorious new Today!

The Star-Namer

Psalm 147:3-5

He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.
Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

There are days when our hearts break.

And days when we are deeply wounded.

But the same One who numbers the stars and gives them each a name is the God who heals our broken hearts and binds up our wounded souls and minds.

He is great. His power is great. His understanding is infinite.

UNDERSTAND’ING, n. Knowledge; exact comprehension.

His ability to comprehend exactly what you are going through never ends.

The Star-name is your Heart-Healer and your Wound-Binder.

Think on that today.

In Him,

Alesha Kay

Managing My Monday

Yep. It’s been a whiiiiiiile since I’ve done a Managing My Monday post! But I’m just going to jump right in. 🙂

Doug teaches via livestream on Mondays and Wednesdays, so that leaves me here with Isaac and the 2 dogs. Normally, I wouldn’t have to include the “2 dogs” part, but when 1 of those dogs is still a puppy…well, there’s a lot to manage there. So…I included them.

LexaBelle is adorable and growing so fast! She is well over 40 pounds now and super strong for a pup. She has something to “say” about everything – whether she needs to potty, or something outside made a noise, or she can’t find her toy, or she’s hungry…or sleepy…or stuck on the bed and afraid to jump down. You get the picture…she barks at ev.er.y.thing. We’re working on it, but whew – she is so much more vocal than any other dog we’ve ever had, and it’s testing our training ability, I can assure you!

Isaac is a dream to care for. He is so well trained now and understands when I tell him he’ll have to wait for Daddy to come home for something. I can no longer move him up in the bed or change/feed him. Doug does all those tasks. So Isaac has the patience of a saint, as long as I keep the Gaither, Little Einsteins and 3-2-1-Penguins videos rolling.

Every Monday, I handle Isaac’s payroll. I have to approve hours and submit codes via a couple different web sites now. It seems like the process changes every few months. Right now, Isaac only has 2 employees – Doug and Mrs. Julie. That keeps it pretty simple. We’d like to eventually add someone else to the roster for those times when Mrs. Julie can’t make it and Doug already has plans made. It doesn’t happen often, but it’d be nice to have a backup.

Over the weekend I made a yummy, healthy trail mix. I’d been buying a keto trail mix from Wally World, but it was $5 for a small container. I bought my own nuts, included a few extra things they didn’t have and removed stuff I didn’t like. Of course you can tweak it to your preferences. It’s really delicious and keeps me from sending Doug out for chips. 😉

I included pecans and walnuts (sprayed lightly with olive oil, salted and roasted), cashews, cocktail peanuts, and pepitas. I also added Lily’s sugar-free chocolate chips and some golden raisins. I realize the raisins pull it out of “keto” range, but I like them and used them very sparingly.

Monday’s also the day I start to work on our menu and grocery lists for the week. This is a task I am so not good at, but I keep trying. Doug’s at Publix right now, picking up the fabulous BOGOs and all our meat for the week. We shop at Walmart, too, via their Grocery app and website. We splurged for a year of Walmart+, so we get free delivery of our groceries each week. I don’t know if we’ll continue it beyond this year. We’ll wait and see what this next year holds, financially, before making that decision.

I did start my Monday in the Word of God today. It’s a really good place to start. 🙂 I’m going through this book right now. It has short undated devotions, accompanied by beautiful art and painted Bible verses. I’m really enjoying it.

During the holidays, I usually change my phone ringtone to something Christmasy – usually Carol of the Bells by The Celtic Women (because it’s beautiful and tickles my funny bone every time it starts playing.)

But for the New Year, I wanted something a little more meaningful. My phone doesn’t ring often, so when it does, I pay attention. This year, I chose a song by the McKamey’s called “I Keep Praying.”

It has really been a great motivator to me so far. There is so much going on that I need to pray about – in my life, my family, my church, my nation. There are so many things I can’t do anything about – except pray. I’m so thankful I have a Heavenly Father that hears me every time I lift my heart, mind and voice to Him in praise and supplication.

He knows me. And He hears me. What a precious treasure that is – for this Monday, and for every day!

Hope your Monday goes well,

Alesha Kay

When God Thunders

Suffering’s Silent Shout

Gasping, barely-breathed,
My cry reaches the ear of God.
Not by my effort.
I have no words.
The pain has rendered me mute.
My mind knows not what to pray.
I merely groan, waiting,
Hoping, not seeing,
Needing a Daysman
To bridge the space
Between my heart and God’s.
His Spirit within
Searches my heart,
Sees my need,
Hears my cry,
Knows the mind of Christ for me;
And carries my heart’s true desire
To the Mediator who hung
‘Tween Heaven and earth for me.
They know –
The Father,
The Son,
The Spirit –
What I need.
He works all things
For my good.
He uses the pain,
The not-knowing,
The groanings that have no words,
To mold,
To conform,
To His image,
The Three-In-One.
The Godhead.
The Christ Who is for me,
Who freely gives me all things,
Who is at His Father’s right hand
Communing with His Spirit
Who lives in me.
The pain that makes me mute
Begins His glory in me.
The tribulation cannot separate me from Him.
My cries are not unheard.
When I can only groan,
The Triune God
Thunders on my behalf.
