Symptoms of Sinusitis

The After-Effects Of The Stinking Flu."

(Pun totally intended!)

  • is the diaper just wet?
  • is it time for a new bath towel?(same question about the dish towel/dish cloth)
  • is the milk/juice still good?
  • do i have coffee breath?
  • do i have bad breath? (not the same as coffee breath!)
  • is it time to clean the bird cage?
  • that gas was silent, but was it deadly?
  • are isaac's clothes wet because of his slobbery toy, or is it something more? (same question about his bed pads)
  • should i use the Lysol before I leave the bathroom?
  • do my shoes/feet stink?
  • does the garbage need to go out?
  • Is the "cheater" plug between the water distiller and the extension chord melting? (don't EVEN let my dad know that is a legitimate question – Yikes!)
  • do Isaac's feet stink?
  • is it time to wash the dog's rug?
  • did I brush Isaac's teeth this morning?
  • does the house smell like last night's supper?

I know I take my ability to smell for granted.

I also know that a good house-keeping schedule and proper grooming habits take care of most of these issues.

However, when you are stopped dead in your tracks by the nasty flu, and the ability to smell is taken from you suddenly, it can really throw a kink into your day.

Laura, you have my sincerest sympathies (despite the humorous post)!

And if this doesn't clear up soon for me, I might need you to give me a few pointers. 😉

Well, that's it for me…

Smell ya later…

I can only hope!!!

Friday Catchup

So many things have been happening here, that I've been too busy to blog.  Most of you keep up with me on facebook, but just in case there's 1 or 2 who are wondering what's going on with us lately, here are a few bullets to inform you:

  • Doug's mom had extensive abdominal surgery yesterday.  They removed about a foot of her large intestine, but she had no complications and was resting in her room by yesterday evening.
  • Doug flew out Wednesday morning to be with her and his grandma.  He will be home next Tuesday night.
  • It was 80* here the day before he flew out.  It was 25* with snow on the ground when he arrived in Ohio, and they are expecting more of the white stuff today. =))
  • Our sweet friends were able to pick Doug up from the airport in Indianapolis, and will be taking him back.  We are so grateful that they were willing to do that, and then drive him to his mom's house.  They also blessed us with a love offering that will just about cover the cost of Doug's ticket.  See?  Really sweet friends…really grateful!
  • I was priviledged to sing at a friend's mother's funeral yesterday.  Mrs. Ruby was a member of my church before our pastor was even there, and we just celebrated his 40th anniversary!  She was a Godly, hardworking woman; and I was honored to have a part in her homegoing service.
  • Our clothes dryer has been on-again, off-again for several weeks now.  It looks like we'll be shopping for a dryer with our tax return.  Not exactly the way I'd choose to spend a big chunk of it, but thankful that the money is available.  Also, it will be my first brand new dryer.  I'm sure I will enjoy using it.
  • We had a fun shopping trip to Whole Foods before Doug left, so I have lots of yummy, healthy foods to enjoy while he is away.
  • Isaac had his check up with his neurosurgeon.  Everything with his shunt is looking well, with no problems or issues.  Yay!!!  He was amazing in the MRI!  He totally did not want to lay his head down, but he listened to us and obeyed – on purpose – and then kept his eyes glued to me in the mirror through the whole test.  I was very proud of him!
  • Our church's radio station is having its once-a-year pledge drive.  We call it "Restorathon".  It makes for 3 exciting days of radio listening! ;)  This year, they are also streaming video from Restorathon Headquarters, so that those of us at home can enjoy watching as well as listening.
  • I had a great time last Saturday recording a jingle for the Restorathon.  My two friends Myra and Lisette met me at the studio and we laughed our way through the recording session.  It was wonderful!  And truthfully, I feel like I need to use quotations for most of words in those sentences – LOL!!!  It's just a tiny little room, and we are in no way professionals, BUT the engineer is really excellent, and makes it sounds top-notch!
  • I woke up this morning with sinus congestion, a major headache and a sore throat.  I think it's probably due to all the pollen I was subjected to yesterday; but I still feel miserable, regardless of the reason.  I used all the cure-alls in my arsenal, and hope to feel better soon.
  • I won't have help with Isaac tomorrow, and only a few hours on Sunday.  If you think of us, would you pray for strength and stamina for me?  I'd really appreciate it.
  • In case you want to watch/listen to our Restorathon, you can go here:  WLVF-Gospel 90.3
  • Have a happy weekend!!!

Thought for Today

Excerpt from Streams in the Desert by Mrs. Charles E. Cowman~

Dear restless heart, be still; don't fret and worry so;

God has a thousand ways His love and help to show;

Just trust, and trust, and trust, until His will you know.

Dear restless heart, be still, for peace is God's own smile,

His love can every wrong and sorrow reconcile;

Just love, and love, and love, and calmly wait awhile.

Dear restless heart, be brave; don't moan and sorrow so,

He hath a meaning kind in chilly winds that blow;

Just hope, and hope, and hope, until you braver grow.

Dear restless heart, repose upon His breast this hour,

His grace is strength and life, His love is bloom and flower;

Just rest, and rest, and rest, within His tender power.

Dear restless heart, be still!  Don't struggle to be free;

God's life is in your life, from Him you may not flee;

Just pray, and pray, and pray, till you have faith to see.

Managing My Mondays

Jn316hrt

I hope you are having a good day today.

Having suffered through many, many Mother's Days while struggling with infertility, I know this day can be overwhelming and painful for those who long to be in a loving relationship with someone.

I really can't do anything to make that pain any better, but I can remind you that Jesus understands your pain.  He can help to ease it, if you will allow Him to work in your heart and life.  His Word can offer you comfort and understanding; and His love can sustain you through even the most lonely days.

For those of you who welcome this holiday, I wish you a very Happy Valentine's Day!!! 🙂

My Monday started this morning about 7:30, when Isaac decided he needed some dry attire to wear. ;)  By 7:45, I found myself flat on the floor, contemplating just what I had injured in my graceful tumble.  I know, I know – how in the world do you fall down on a flat surface???  I don't know, exactly, but I offer this feeble explanation:

Somehow my pajama leg got tucked under my sock, which started my downward momentum, and said pajama leg also prohibited the "grippies" on the bottom of the sock to do their job properly – that of gripping the floor.  I sort of pitched forward, grasped for a handhold, twirled around and plonked.  Down.  Hard.  Quickly.  On the floor.  And then my head hit the gargage can.

Had you been a fly on the wall, I'm pretty sure you would have laughed.

Thankfully, Isaac is very merciful and did NOT! 😉

One of the reasons he may have felt less inclined than usual to laugh at Mommy is that I screamed at him on Saturday.  Really loudly.  When he head-butted my nose!!!  He probably didn't want a repeat of that drama!  I did hear my nose "crack" when that happened, but my former-boys-basketball-coach-husband's best medical diagnosis was "Eh…it should be ok."

😉

It is ok.  I have a slight darkening under either eye, but it just looks like I've been sick for a week or so.  And thankfully, I have some fabulous makeup that camoflaged it well.

So, Ike knows he'd better treat Mommy well today! :)  And he has been…I got a very sweet Valentine's Day card from him this morning. :)  I got one from my hubby as well, along with this cute little guy.

IMAG0039

His name's Cassanova, of course! 😉

So, managing my Monday this week, is going to basically mean managing the pain, which isn't too bad yet, all things considered.

Isaac's caregiver is chopping veggies for our soup and our salsa, both of which will last us for a few days this week.  Our dryer still isn't working right, but thankfully, my mom is right next door, and her dryer is working well. :)  Plus, we were able to keep up with the laundry over the weekend, so we won't get behind with the dryer on the fritz.

I will be working on our budget a little later today.  I usually do that job on Friday and then again mid-week, just so we stay on top of everything.  My bank is launching on new website on Wednesday, so I thought I would get the budget work done before then, just in case the launch doesn't go as expected.

We have our water distiller running today.  We usually distill one gallon a day, M, W, Th, F and Sa.  That supplies our water needs through the week.  We don't consume the city water at all, so this water is for drinking, cooking and all of Isaac's water.  We add WaterMax back into the water to add nutrients and to make it alkaline.

My goal for this week is to also get veggies chopped up for salads.  I store each veggie in a container in the frig, so that they are ready to be used in a salad whenever we want one.  This isn't something I get done every week, but I would like to make it a weekly habit.  It helps us start out the week with good, healthy ingredients at our fingertips.

I pray that you have a good week.  Hopefully, the tasks we have completed today will help to make our week go a little more smoothly than it would without our careful planning.

Blessings to you,

Alesha
