Praying for Isaac

  KeplernIke

Isaac has been having symptoms of shunt failure for about 3 weeks now.  We had to rule out ear infections, sinus infection, etc. to know what was going on.  I talked with the neurosurgeon PA yesterday, and she feels his shunt needs to be tapped to see what is going on.  (They have a tiny needle hooked to a tube that they literally "tap" into his shunt line, right through his skin on his head.)  If they get fluid there, they know the shunt is not working properly.

Doug is taking Ike to the children's hospital ER at 2 p.m today.  They will tap the shunt.  If it is not working, they will do emergency brain surgery.  If you recall the 03/10 surgery was to replace the tubing of the shunt.  This will be to replace the shunt itself – a much more serious surgery.

Due to his previous surgeries, there could be complications.  His first shunt could not be removed due to the skull's calcifying around it.  It had been in place for 5 years.  They laid the 2nd shunt right beside that one.  That was 5 years ago.  If the same thing has happened to the 2nd shunt, I believe they would have to remove one or both of them to put in a new one.  That means lots of blood loss and much more extensive surgery.

Of course, I cannot go.  (I cannot sit up long enough yet for the ride there, much less all the walking, etc. that would be required.)  That is almost more than I can bear.

Thanks for praying.

Managing My Mondays

I'll be managing this Monday from my bed.  My back suddenly went out on Saturday.  I have been in bed ever since.  My plan is to get to the chiropractor this afternoon.

So, I'll leave you with the latest puppy pics. 🙂

Just a Few Things

This looked really yummy to us.  We will definitely be trying it soon.

Berry Quick Citrus Iced Tea

I thought you might be interested in the recipe to my "All Purpose Floor Cleaner UPper":

In a spray bottle mix the following:

A few squirts of your favorite liquid soap (I prefer Basic H from Shaklee)

1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar

Water to fill bottle

This is what I have been using to clean up the puppy puddles on my floors.  I have also used it on any area rugs that were "sprinkled" as well.  It is a great spot cleaner for other spills too.  The vinegar smell is pretty strong when first sprayed, but it disipates very quickly.

This was an interesting article about how microwave ovens cook:

I had always wondered about that.

All 3 of us are recuperating nicely, praise the Lord!

Wishing you a lovely evening (or morning!),

Thankful on Tuesday

I am thankful…

  • That Isaac has not had fever since Sunday.  (That is after Friday's trip to the ER, his diagnoses of pneumonia, I.V. antibiotics and lots of acetominaphen and ibuprofen.)
  • That Doug only has bronchitis and sinusitis, and NOT pneumonia, although the doctor said he was on the verge of it.  (He is now on 2 rounds on heavy antibiotics, cough meds and acetominaphen.)
  • That I was feeling just well enough from my bout of sickness to take care of them both over the weekend.
  • For my wonderful family who fed us and brought us groceries.
  • For my wonderful friends who kept in close touch, in case I needed anything.
  • That my mom's washing machine is right next door, since ours died last week.
  • That our truck keeps running, even though the "check engine" light has been coming on since Friday, but there hasn't been time or energy to get it to the shop.
  • That God meets every need, in His time, before the load becomes more than we can bear.

What are you thankful for today???

The Way of Blessing

This is how God met our needs this week:

  • A family member slipped me a $20 bill in passing
  • I was paid for singing (which I did not expect!)
  • My electric bill dropped $45! (I tried to keep my thermostat 1* higher than last month and it definitely paid off!)
  • I went to a party and was sent home with leftovers (barbeque, y'all – my hubby was thrilled!)
  • My hubby's new job is closer to our house, so less gas being used each day.  He is also not coming home at lunch time, so actually there is much less gas being used!
  • Several things we needed from the grocery store were on sale – bogo – and I was able to use some coupons too.
  • Doug and I both had lunch out and someone else picked up the ticket.

How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!
 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

~~~~~
 He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.
End of the Week Wrap-Up
Ike hung out with Daddy again at work today.  It was Doug's last day of work at the print shop.  On Monday, he heads back to school – to teach Math, Bible and Biology.  He is super excited about being in the classroom again. 🙂
I visited my chiropractor today and she cracked everything back into place.  I do feel some better after my trip.
We have a birthday party to attend tomorrow, then church on Sunday.  I am really praying that we will be able to attend everything.
We had a beauty of a thunderstorm today – it lasted all of 5 minutes!!!  LOL!  Gotta love Florida!
The puppy rang the bell this morning to go out to potty!  That's only the second time she's done it!  We are excited about that, because we are both tired of cleaning up piddly little puddles. 😉
Sorry I don't have a photo for today…I'll try to do better next week. 🙂
May God richly bless your weekend,
Alesha
